A new chapter for CMAC’s Industry Board
Introducing our new Chair
CMAC is pleased to announce the appointment of its new Industry Board Chair, Dr. Ivan Marziano from Pfizer.
As a Research Fellow in Pfizer’s Chemical Research and Development division, Dr. Marziano is no stranger to the CMAC Industry Board having served as an active member since 2019. By unanimous vote, he was elected to the role following the end of the term of the outgoing Chair, AstraZeneca’s Dr. Jon-Paul Sherlock. CMAC would like to thank Jon-Paul for his leadership and valued contributions over his 4 year tenure which oversaw CMAC strategic growth.
CMAC’s Industry Board plays a crucial role in the successful delivery of relevant and adoptable medicines and manufacturing solutions aligned with the centre’s Strategic Pillars and Priorities. CMAC is certain that Dr. Marziano will oversee the next phase of implementation of its strategic objectives to digitalise Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls (CMC) and that this phase will be guided by the input of robust and relevant industry insight.
Ivan Marziano commented: ”The next few years will be pivotal in shaping the future of pharmaceutical research and manufacturing in the UK. Given the pace of social, political and environmental change, as well as the unique opportunities from Net Zero. CMAC has tremendous potential in helping to fulfil the UK Government’s Life Science Vision by virtue of the scope and quality of its research and its national and international collaborative ecosystem. I look forward to playing a part in ensuring CMAC’s continuing success in all these areas, and more.”
CMAC Industry Director, Massimo Bresciani commented, “CMAC has developed a leading approach to building and delivering value. Through ideation, cocreation, codelivery of research and Translation to Industry, its focus on ensuring translation and its proven approach to developing industry ready scientists is increasingly becoming a key asset and priority to accelerate the implementation of the UK advanced manufacturing roadmap. Looking forward to working closely with Ivan and the entire Industry Board at this exciting time.
Prof. Alastair Florence, Director, CMAC said, “On behalf of the Centre, I welcome Ivan’s appointment as Chair of our industry membership board. Collaboration is at the heart of what we do and the board Chair plays a central role in helping to ensure our programme is informed by industry challenges. Ivan is a huge advocate of pharmaceutical research and innovation and he takes on the role at an important time as we continue to grow our manufacturing research portfolio, plan our skills and training programme and invest in cutting edge process and digital technologies to deliver our shared Lab of the Future vision. I am delighted to have the opportunity to work together to cement CMAC’s position as a globally leading centre for transforming the way medicines are developed and made.”
The CMAC Industry Board is currently comprised of members of CMAC leadership team and representatives from Tier 1 partners.
The Industry Board meets quarterly, with Ivan’s first meeting as Chair held in February 2023.
